When one of our partner schools first introduced us to these beautiful sensory pods, we instantly fell in love. Designed to help children feel safe, calm, and grounded, they’ve quickly become one of our favourite self-regulation tools!
After learning about the creator of the Floof, we just knew we had to bring them into the Therapeutic Classrooms store so more children could experience them!
I use these regularly in my classroom make overs both in primary school and secondary schools. They are perfect for SEMH rooms, nurture rooms, therapy rooms and sensory rooms, as well as being part of the calm area in a classroom if you have the space.
The Floof story
Floofs are lovingly created by Rose van Zanten in the Netherlands.
Rose's story began when she was struggling with chronic PTSD and burn out. She was couch bound for a long time and her friend taught her to blanket stitch. She had rescued a traumatised puppy from Romania called Tofu, who began building nests out of her bed. Rose made her a floof to help her feel safe. That was the beginning of Floof Couture!
Rose’s mum was then diagnosed with cancer and sewing Floofs became a therapeutic outlet, a way for Rose to find purpose, comfort, and connection through a difficult time. During this time she discovered first-hand just how deeply calming and healing her Floofs could be for others too.
Rose soon realised her creations weren’t just being bought by dog owners, they were being used to create safe, soothing spaces for children living with ADD, insomnia, chronic illness, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and grief.
And that is how we found her, searching for flexible seating for young people in a special school.
