Safeguarding Statement

Last updated: 03.09.2025

The safety and wellbeing of children is central to our mission at Therapeutic Classrooms. Every classroom we create is designed to be safe, nurturing, and underpinned by care.

Our Commitments

Child-Centred Design: All classrooms are underpinned by neuroscience, stress and mental health research and are trauma-informed and attachment-aware in design and practice. We know children cannot learn unless they feel emotionally safe.

Safe Products: Where products are covered by existing education standards, we ensure they meet or exceed those requirements (e.g. fire safety and classroom chair testing). Some of our furniture such as high bar tables, side tables, coffee tables, and floor tables are not typically used in traditional education settings and therefore do not yet fall under formal “education-approved” standards. We are pioneering their use in schools to raise expectations of what a classroom can be, and we remain committed to testing, refining, and sourcing the safest possible options. (See ‘what are the education standards’ document/ section)

Low-Toxic Environments: We recommend eco-friendly cleaning products to protect children’s health and wellbeing.

Collaboration & Feedback

We don’t just design for schools and children; we design with them. We continually seek and listen to feedback from schools, staff, and children on how our furniture is used, performs, and feels. In fact, children have played an active role in helping us create and test or furniture and soft furnishings to ensure their voice is enveloped into the design.

We adapt and improve our approach based on their feedback, ensuring our classrooms evolve with the real needs of the children they serve.

Training & Awareness

Our staff and associates working in schools are subject to safeguarding checks and training in line with statutory guidance.

We only work with suppliers and contractors who share our commitment to child safety and wellbeing.

Shared Responsibility

We encourage schools to maintain safe, well-kept environments through our Furniture & Classroom Care Guide, and to involve children in looking after their spaces as part of fostering respect and responsibility.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. If you have any concerns about the safety or wellbeing of children in connection with our work, please contact us immediately at hello@therapeuticclassrooms.co.uk.
